Chicks And Eggs Card For Easter

Do you send out Easter cards? I normally don’t, but they’re just so much fun to make!

I shared this Easter card a couple of years ago – the paper and stamps that I used have been discontinued, but you could use the same idea to make a similar card using product that are currently available.

Stampin’ Mist Background Technique

Every other month, I get together with other Stampin’ Up! demonstrators in my area for a “Demo Camp.” At these gatherings, we share both business and creative ideas – along with friendship and snacks.

At a recent Demo Camp, my Upline (the term we use for for the Demonstrator directly above you, usually the one that you signed up with) told us that she had been cleaning up and organizing her stamping area, and she had come across some old technique tutorials. And she brought copies of those old techniques with her to share with the group! That’s one of the benefits of being a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator – the sharing and support that you receive from other demonstrators is awesome!

If you’ve ever been curios about joining Stampin’ Up!, Sale-a-bration is an awesome time to join! You get your choice of Stampin’ Up! products, up to $155 value, for just $99! Click here to find out more.

I flipped through the list of techniques to see if there were any that I hadn’t tried before, and I found the Stampin’ Mist Background Technique. It looked like a fun & easy technique, so I gave it a try!

Here’s how to do the Stampin’ Mist Background Technique:

  • Versamark Pad
  • Whisper White Cardstock
  • Stampin’ Mist
  • Classic Stampin’ Pad (any color)
  • Stamp Tip: solid stamps work best. Detailed stamps will blur a lot. It is a cool look, but only if you are going for that particular look.

  • Ink stamp with Versamark Pad
  • Color cardstock with Classic Stampin’ Pad using direct to paper method. Cover cardstock well with ink.
  • Mist stamp with Stampin’ Mist, then quickly apply wet stamp to the inked cardstock. The wetter the cardstock, the more ink will be removed.
  • Lift off the stamp. Color will be removed by the versamark and the Stampin’ Mist. You can speed the drying process up with a heat tool.

Additional tips:

  • The stamp should be pretty wet with Stampin’ Mist, but not dripping.
  • This works best if the cardstock is still somewhat damp from inking.
  • Well inked (juicy) stamp pads work the best.
  • Work quickly.

Don’t be discouraged if your first attempt doesn’t turn out as you’d hoped – mine didn’t either! What you see on this card is actually my 4th attempt – I just wasn’t pleased with the first three.

Try different colors of ink, too – you might be surprised with the color left behind after you remove some ink with the Stampin’ Mist. On my sample, below, I used Soft Suede ink on Whisper White cardstock, and then stamped the It’s Wild (zebra print) with Versamark and Stampin’ Mist to create the fun background.

Once I had a finished piece I liked, it was time to build a card around it – no, I didn’t have a finished card in mind when I started. I often just let the stamps & ink take me where they may!

I stamped the Woodgrain Background stamp onto a Tip Top Taupe card base using Crumb Cake ink. Then I chose stamps from The Open Sea stamp set to compliment the rugged, adventurous, masculine feel. For the sentiment I combined the “Happy Birthday” from the Perfect Pairings Sale-a-bration stamp set – don’t you just love the vintage style type? with the phrase “to a wonderful man”, from the Happy Birthday, Everyone stamp set (hostess exclusive).

I was really pleased with the way this card turned out. My hubby’s birthday is coming up in a few weeks – maybe he’ll get this card? He is pretty wonderful!

If you’d like to recreate this card at home, here’s a complete list of supplies that I used. To order, simply click on any of the product pictures to co to my Online Store.

Birthday Card Class!

Sign Up NOW! Registration Ends in 48 Hours!

Social media is ruining birthdays!

Think about it – you look at your smartphone first thing in the morning, and Facebook tells you that “Today is so&so’s birthday!” So you tap out a quick “Happy birthday” message, then go about on about your day.

How much nicer would it be if, instead, you sent a handmade card in the mail? That’s what the #IMBRINGINGBIRTHDAYSBACK movement is all about! The personal connection of a handmade card, delivered to the recipient’s mailbox, and held in their hands.

You just don’t get the same feeling from a little red circle on your phone or computer.

Join me as we take back birthdays in this all new card making class.

At the end of the evening, you’ll have 5 completed cards, ready to put in the mail, for just $30!
