My birthday just happened to fall on the Friday before Thanksgiving this year, and I had the good fortune of spending the weekend with a couple of friends at Retreat To Complete – a scrapbook retreat center near Somerset, Kentucky!
Now, don’t get me wrong – I love spending time with my husband and sons, but sometimes it’s nice to get away with just the girls!
We left early Friday morning, all three of us and all of our scrapbooking gear in one van, and made the 3.5 hour trek down I-75.
The retreat is located in a log cabin, waaaay off the main road, overlooking Lake Cumberland. It was a beautiful location. We spent the weekend in our pajamas, or “house pants” as my friend Julie calls them, wearing no makeup, eating and sleeping whenever we wanted to – so relaxing! And although it was cold when we left home Friday morning (around 10 degrees!), the weather warmed up on Saturday and we enjoyed a beautiful, mostly sunny day with the high temperature near 60 degrees! We couldn’t let a nice day like that in November go to waste, so we took advantage of it and took a walk down the country lane Saturday afternoon.

The owners live next door, and they have pet goats – Daisy, Bo, Luke, and Cooter – that they let us feed right out of our hands:
And pet chickens:
George the Rooster (with the white tail) is friendly and even let us hold him! We also fed the chickens, but my friend Julie was the only one brave (or crazy?) enough to let the chickens eat out of her hand!
We did actually get a lot of scrapbooking done too! I worked on the album for me and my husband’s Vow Renewal Ceremony from several years ago. This is one of the pages that I completed:
- This is an 8×10 pic on a 12×12 Basic Black page. I matted the picture with Whisper White (8 1/8 x 10 1/8) and Elegant Eggplant (8 1/2 x 10 1/2). I cut Silver Fancy Foil Vellum and Whisper White to 11×11 and adhered the Vellum to the Whisper White using Multipurpose Liquid Glue, then attached the cardstock to the page with SNAIL.
- I punched a Large Oval from Whisper White and hand-wrote “Our Vow Renewal” with my Project Life Journaling Pen. I punched a Scalloped Oval from Tempting Turquoise and added that as a layer behind the Whisper White Oval.
- I punched a Banner from Whisper White and hand-wrote the date on it using my Project Life Journaling pen. I added a layer behind the punched banner by handcutting a banner, just slightly larger than the punched one, from Elegant Eggplant.
This was a fairly simple page to put together but I think it has a very elegant look. I’ll share more of my finished pages over time.
And can you guess what my colors were?
